The city of Shiva

1

April 2012.  Back to India. I have been travelling from Delhi to Varansai visiting the villages of Vrindavan and Matura photographing what was happening around. I title this project he path of light inspired by those people and their faith. Based on the holy city of Varanasi, also Benares, Banaras or Kashi, the city on the banks of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh, 320 kilometers southeast of the state capital, Lucknow. I portrayed the Devoted Indians in their daily happening. No many places in India are s colourful, charismatic and spiritual as Varanasi. The city of Shiva is one of the holiest places in India, where Hindu pilgrims come to wash away a lifetime of sins in the Ganges or to cremate their loved ones. With its bathing ghats lining the Ganges Varanasi, has always been an auspicious place to die, since expiring here offers moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death). The city is the beating heart of the Hindu universe, a crossing place between the physical and spiritual worlds, and the Ganges is viewed as a river of salvation, an everlasting symbol of hope to past, present and future generations.  2 4 6 8 15 20 24 32 34 38 39 40 44 50 53 54 55 58 60 62 Untitled83
